ASQUARED GOES PINK!
Several women who are victims of Breast Cancer were given free makeovers at asquared and ensured everyone dressed up in pink (including staff!) to help bring awareness of the challenging illness.
In part of Breast Cancer Awareness this month, asquared in Catford kindly opened its doors, on what would have been a busy Saturday to treat and spoil patients of breast cancer free of charge. Offered to them were a full range of services, with additional body and hand massages provided by Maria Garribay a professional masseuse; both whom go to Calvary Chapel Church, Victoria. The dedicated day was brought about by all members of staff, who really got behind the idea and brought a bit of their own individual effort and passion to make it happen.
For the past few weeks, each staff member has been making their contribution to the day; Claudette Johnson donated all her tips while her daughter Akira, 16 and friend managed to raise £75 in a week at their school. In addition, all clients charitably donated lead up to a total in excess of £500.
The real challenge and goal was not only to help bring awareness to Breast Cancer but to try and go that extra mile by indulging these beautiful women with an experience that they would never forget. Suzanne, one of the lucky ladies beams "I can’t believe people like this still exist – today has touched mine and my family’s hearts in so many ways", with another fortunate lady, Daniella adding "I’m speechless. Thank you so much".
The day went extremely well and the elation on the faces of the women brought people to tears while the patients still manage to smile and soldier on. When speaking to the women the underlying message was clear: breast cancer is an extremely difficult and challenging illness and stressed that all females should go and have themselves checked often – regardless of age, colour even men. Beneficiary Liz added “If I had not gone to have my regular checks, I would not have known – so please, simply go”.
The ladies are patients of two charities whom supported the day: Breast Cancer Care and Breakthrough. Goodies were kindly donated to them from Direct Hair Salon Ltd. and Phytospecific.
Each staff member was deeply moved from today; Artistic Director Abena said “Today has to be the most rewarding day I have come to know; hearing the stories of the ladies and seeing the joy in their faces have made everything so special in so many ways. I would love to have the opportunity to do this again”.
